Cuisine: American Grill with a fine food twist

The title on the menu describes this place perfectly as “A Fine Food Shack.”  Owned by the same people who own Aura Restaurant, the gourmet influence is apparent in the menu.  A casual walk-in place where you order up front, find a seat and the food is brought out to your table in baskets or bowls.   With typical items such as sliders, grazing food, sandwiches, burgers, salads, seafood, southern favorites, tacos and sides, one would not expect to see the gourmet touch among them.

The Southwest Flounder Salad, for example, has blackened flounder, corn-black bean salsa, avocado and a Jalapeno-Cilantro Ranch dressing.  Other salads come with Pineapple – Mango Pico or blackened shrimp.  Burgers are offered with Blue cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, chipotle mayo and Saigon Pork.

Of note are the highly recommended and irresistible sweet potato fries served with maple bourbon sauce. The pulled pork sandwich was very good as well.  The chicken fried steak was huge and had a great flavor, as did the gravy.  That gourmet influence is quite evident in the desserts.

Where else would you find Bananas Foster Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce or White Chocolate Bread Pudding with Raspberry Sauce or even Crème Brulee at a casual food shack?

Overall Rating: 4 stars.
