An invitation for this bike to be yoinked?
Tis’ the season for holiday cheer and bike theft prevention
Authorities say that many bike thefts are a crime of opportunity. This bicycle chained onto a stop sign in aSugar Land neighborhood did not appear to be safe and frankly, it looked like an open invitation to be taken. There was no rider in sight, except for the one passing by and a couple of other cars drove by sporadically, but not regularly. Notice there’s even a backpack hooked onto the bike. It’s not known whether this was a police sting operation to catch a thief in the act, but it is doubtful since the bike in view is so obvious.
Some good advice: Park your bike in front of a destination – the more eyes, the better. Even the most secure locks can be cut loose if given enough time; so, don’t leave a bike outside for hours on end, especially at night. Most importantly, to reduce attracting attention, keep a bike as far out of sight from the street as possible, obviously not done here. Here’s hoping this was not a reported theft.
