Fort Bend ISD’s Annual PEP Conference provides student resources for college and career planning
Fort Bend ISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) staff hosted their annual PEP (Pregnancy Education and Parenting) Conference to provide students with resources and information to support their educational and parenting needs. This year’s theme: “You’re the Director of Your Life…Make it a Blockbuster” inspired students to take control of their lives and make positive choices that will benefit them and their families, today and in the future.
The program began with remarks by FBISD Superintendent of Schools Charles Dupre, who served as guest speaker for the event. He welcomed students and encouraged them to pursue their passion and remain focused on their goals.
Participants also took part in break-out sessions on “College and Career” and “Workforce,” participated in a Teen Panel, and viewed exhibits by representatives of area colleges and universities (including Houston Community College and DeVry University), and family support centers (such as Child-Care Solutions, UTMB Health, and Early Childhood Intervention).
“There are many success stories of young parents who are leading successful lives,” said Shelly Conejo, Teen Panelist. “You have to use your children as motivation to do better for yourself and for them.” Conejo also encouraged young mothers and fathers to create support groups of family and friends to provide help when needed.
