Heritage Rose Elementary kicks off “Greet a Grad” Day Event

Superintendent Charles Dupre addresses Heritage Rose’s Class of 2021.

Faculty, staff and administrators at Heritage Rose Elementary School held their first “Greet a Grad” Day event to give fifth-grade students (The Class of 2021) an opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of college experiences had by District and community leaders.

The event welcomed Fort Bend ISD administrators, parents, grandparents, community members and current college students, who enjoyed lunch with students and answered questions students had regarding college. The fifth graders were eager to learn about the college graduates’ experiences in choosing majors, balancing course workloads, living with roommates, paying for school and other areas of college life.

After lunch, the group met in the gym to hear more detailed messages from the college graduates. Superintendent of Schools Charles Dupre was among the speakers to address students. He commended them on taking an interest in college at an early age and reminded them to stay on course.

“In fifth grade, you’re basically half way to college already,” said Dupre. “Now is a good time to think about what you would like to become and start preparing for it. Continue to read, learn good discipline and responsibility at school and at home, and know that in today’s world, a college degree is important to help you do what you want in life.”
