Local Artist Tie Wood presents “Brushed: A Rothko Inspired Art Exhibit”
Tie Wood of Wood Design will present her long awaited Rothko Inspired Art Exhibit, Brushed, in an intimate reception Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Sugarland Art Center& Gallery located at 104 Industrial Blvd. Suite Q , Sugar Land.
When asked about the creative process, Wood responded, “I admire the creativity of an artist. Creating a focal point is impressive. Building its purpose is fascinating. The idea that this [the artwork] is meant to complete a self-expressive design is breathtaking.” Through the “Brushed” exhibit one can expect to find art intended for contemporary placement in home and office, or the more intimate placement above the fireplace, behind the sofa or in a foyer.
The collection captures the struggle between a peaceful and calm stroke and a defiant rash blend. Brushed with no Brush! Inspired by the great Mark Rothko, one of the most famous American color-field, abstract expressionism artist of his time. “Rothko’s use of simplistic patterns in combination with complex color pairing both amused and intrigued me,” commented Wood when asked about her inspiration.
Tie Wood began her exploration of the many aspects of design varying from interiors to paintings as a hobby, but was soon convinced to pursue a career in this field after one of her pieces was the first to sell, proceeding a rather exciting bidding war, in the AISD Student Chapter Silent Auction.
Wood later became a student of the craft attending Houston Community College. Always looking for an outlet to display her work, she often found it necessary to network with local businesses. Through her continued support of one local business in particular, Wood became one of the first artist featured in the monthly artist rotation at the infamous Breakfast Klub in Houston over 12 years ago.
Wood later developed her own design firm Wood Design which has been commissioned all over the country for complete design transformations and original art pieces.
