Customer’s inconvenience overlooked by post office operations

With some many improvements to the U.S. Postal service to keep it viable like the Online Postage on Demand website,, for stamps, printing shipping labels even directly on envelopes, it would seem reasonable to make tweaks to the onsite services…like the self service kiosk, which represents a tremendous improvement.

At the self service areas in post office lobbies available 24/7 like the one in Sugar Land on Grants Lake with the self service kiosk, you can purchase postage for letters and packages and much more using a debit or credit card. This is where there’s a scale to weigh packages. But if your package does not fit in the bin located pretty much next to the kiosk, then you can’t even purchase the stamps for the oversized package, and you must stand in line for this altogether.

There’s clearly a better way, relates one local customer. “Why not allow getting postage for the oversized packages at the kiosk, and once that’s done, simply hand the package to a post office worker on the other side of the counter eliminating a wait in line?”  It seems like in private business one would do whatever it can to make an experience more convenient for a customer.

Not that long ago there were reported revenue drops in postal service operations partly due to recession influenced mail volume, which showed declines

“Customers may well look for other options for package deliveries given this little snafu in kiosk services,” said the local customer. This may be something the postal service may consider looking into.
