Ruchi’s Taquaria El Rincon De Mexico

6945 Industrial Pkwy, Rosenberg

Cuisine: Mexican

This is a family owned and operated restaurant near a shopping hub. It was mildly busy but plenty of tables were available. A variety of options were offered on the menu including some that were not typically found on run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurants. The menu was a bit confusing, though, as they had plate pictures of many of the items but no names with them and the pictures were not posted on the same page as the description of the item. I had to ask what the pictures were of so I would know where to read about it on the menu. I ordered a margarita and one of the unique plates consisting of two skewers of mixed marinated beef, chicken, and bacon wrapped shrimp. The $6 margarita was small, served in a martini glass and had an artificial yellow color and taste. I regretted ordering it. The plate was slow in coming out, but was piping hot. The meats had a good flavor, but were overcooked and dry to the point of being leathery. They brought the wrong kind of beans, but switched them out promptly. The chips and salsa were okay. If you prefer green sauce you have to ask for it. It was not the creamy green sauce like similar restaurants serve but a dark green more authentic jalapeno sauce, which I did not care for. On a positive note, I did have home made corn tortilla’s for the first time, which were thick and good. After having to listen to a vacuum noise for a short, but very annoying period, I decided this was not a place I would go back to. The service was slow and the food, while reasonably priced, was nothing to write home about.

Overall Rating: 2 stars.

Makes one 16” long roll.
