Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center meets their fundraising goal

The Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center:  A Very Special Project of the Children’s Museum of Houston has reached its fundraising goal.  The $3.65 million capital campaign to fund the project was completed by its December 31, 2013 deadline.  Two final major gifts were received from The George Foundation and Mercedes-Benz of Sugar Land.

Capital Campaign co-chairs Debbie Fash, Jan Leaman, Rachel Leaman and Charlene Pate began fundraising efforts in April 2012 with a $1 million matching grant from The George Foundation.  Throughout the campaign, gifts continued to pour in from Fort Bend corporations, foundations and the community in support of the project.

The Discovery Center plans to contract a design firm to execute exhibit plans.   That firm will work with the City of Sugar Land and The Johnson Development Corp. to remodel a repurposed building in Imperial Sugar Land on Highway 90, where the Discovery Center will be located.

Naming opportunities are still available, ranging from exhibit naming at the $250,000 level, to painted tiles priced from $2,500 to $500.  To make a charitable donation, please contact the Children’s Museum of Houston Capital Campaign Manager Tracy Golden at (713) 535-7237 or  For more on the project, check out
