Skeeters Hot Stove Banquet set for January 30 at Constellation Field

As a part of the 2nd Annual Skeeters Hot Stove Banquet on Thursday, January 30, the organization will recognize the annual introduction of the 16-member All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Baseball Team, as selected by the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association.

The HABCA has also named Cypress Ranch High School Head Baseball Coach John Pope as the recipient of the 2014 Ray Knoblauch Coaching Award, which will also be given at Constellation Field.

The Ray Knoblauch Coaching Award is given by the HABCA to one deserving high school baseball coach who has devoted his life to the development of baseball programs in the Houston area. Pope will take home the honor this year, having served as the Mustangs’ head coach since 2008 and led the school to a Class 5A State Championship title in 2012. Houston native and KPRC Local 2 Sports Director Randy McIlvoy, who played baseball for Ray Knoblauch at Bellaire High School, will be on hand to present this year’s award.

2014 All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Baseball Team

The HABCA also announced the names of the 16-member All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Baseball Team. The 2014 honorees include: Dakota Brewton, Brenham High School; Tucker Cascadden, Lamar High School; Matt Collins, Memorial High School; Kaleb Denny, Barbers Hill High School; Aaron Fletcher, Langham Creek High School; Reid Garrett, Foster High School; Stone Garrett, George Ranch High School; Jaylen Hubbard, Dulles High School; Travis Jones, Atascocita High School; Corbin Martin, Cypress Ranch High School; Michael Rodgers, St. Thomas High School; Ricky Salinas, North Shore Senior High School; Luke Sherley, The Woodlands High School; John Henry Styles, Episcopal High School; Trey Supak, La Grange High School; Connor Wong, Pearland High School.

“Recognizing these players is a compliment for the hard work and athletic ability each has achieved at this point,” said David Sitton, former president of the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association. “It’s awesome that the Skeeters have chosen to honor these players and coaches and we consider it an honor to be a part of such a fantastic event.”

Leading the 2014 guest panel speakers will be former Major Leaguer and Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti, as well as Houston Astros Legend Jimmy Wynn. Sports broadcaster and Sugar Land resident Brett Dolan will serve as emcee for the event, hosting an interactive and candid panel discussion.

The Skeeters will also hold a silent auction during the event benefitting the Deacon’s Dugout Foundation, helping youth related projects or experiences for the culturally, racially and economically diverse populations of those underserved in Fort Bend and surrounding counties.

Individual tickets for the dinner may be purchased for $75. Tables of 10 are also available for the dinner, listed at $750. For more information on reserving tickets and tables for the Second Annual Skeeters Hot Stove Banquet, please call the Skeeters Ticket Office at 281.207.9136 or visit the Skeeters website at www.SugarLandSkeeters.com.
