The Fort Bend Foodie 01/22/14
Shogun Japanese Restaurant
24102 Commercial Dr.
Rosenberg, TX 77471
Cuisine: Japanese sushi & hibachi
This restaurant is in the heart of Rosenberg Town Center. It is generally a quiet place with modern Japanese décor. The menu offers a wide array of sushi, sashimi, edemame, and teppanyaki dishes. While offering over 20 varieties of sushi rolls, they also make custom sushi rolls for the more refined connoisseurs.
On one side of the restaurant are the teppanyaki griddles where the chefs’ knives are spinning and flames are flashing as they created sizzling meat and vegetable dishes table side. On the other side of the restaurant is the sushi bar.
On an early Saturday evening, two of the four teppanyaki griddles had guests being entertained by chefs creating their magic. Another table had one couple sitting with menus at a cool griddle, obviously waiting for other guests to arrive to fill the table and for one of the chefs to finish up at one of the other griddles. This could easily become a full-evening event; so if you want the experience of the teppanyaki, give your self plenty of time.
The sushi was excellent: very fresh, crisp, tasty, colorful and creatively plated. The teppanyaki chicken was very good, served in a rich spicy thin sauce over fresh stir-fried fresh vegetables, with fried rice and hot & sour soup. The teppanyaki shrimp was in the same sauce, but was slightly overcooked and rather tough, but had a good flavor.
The service was prompt and very accommodating. I would definitely go back to this place. Best sushi I have ever tasted!
