Cherry-tart contest to be held at library

In recognition of February as National Cherry Month, University Branch Library will host a Cherry-Tart contest. Area bakers are invited to submit their favorite cherry-tart recipes between February 1 and 15 to the Adult Services Department of the library, located at 14010 University Blvd in Sugar Land, on the UH campus.

Recipe entry forms are available at the library, or they can be downloaded from the library’s website, The recipe does not need to be original, but it must include some type of cherry as one of the ingredients.

A panel of judges will select three recipes from those submitted in the preliminary round. Those three entrants will then be asked to bake their cherry tarts for the final round on Saturday, February 22, for judging at 2:00 pm. Entries will be judged on their appearance, crust, taste, and overall presentation. Winners will be announced that day, and prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

There is no entry fee, and participants may submit up to three recipes per person. For more information, call the branch library at 281-633-5100 or the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.
