Father and step-mother charged with child abuse
By LeaAnne Klentzman
This case came to light in late 2013 when a 9 year old boy was able to get free from the closet where he had been locked up. On November 23, 2013 the youngster climbed out a second floor window of the family residence in the 16400 block of Flint Run Way in the Village of Oak Lakes subdivision seeking help. An area resident notified authorities for the child. Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel said, “The victim told investigators that he had been locked in a closet for several days, fed only once a day and there was evidence of burns on his body.” The youngster did not attend school and was in the custody of his father and step-mother. As the case unfolded investigators learned that the abuse could have been going on for at least a year.
The boy’s father Jorge Estrella and stepmother Aide Estrella were arrested in December of 2013. Jorge Estrella bonded out of jail in January 2014 on two charges of child endangerment with a bond of $125.000; his wife, Aide Estrella remains in jail on three charges of child endangerment. The indictment of Aide Estrella indicates that the boy suffered burns to his body and neither his father nor stepmother provided proper medical treatment, food or safe living conditions.
No further information was available on the child.
