Rep Stephenson and Rosenberg Mayor Morales to honor local officer and student at Mission West Elementary
This Friday, February 14, State Representative Phil Stephenson and Rosenberg Mayor Vincent Morales will be presenting two local celebrities footballs instead of Valentines. That’s right, footballs.
And who might be the lucky recipients of these autographed footballs? None other than Rosenberg police officer, Sgt. Ariel Soltura and his friend, 10 year old Jermaine Ford.
Stephenson and Morales will be accompanied by State Representative, and former NFL cornerback Scott Turner (San Diego Chargers, Denver Broncos), as well as former Houston Cougar, Houston Oiler and Carolina Panthers Pro-Bowl Linebacker, Lamar Latham.
In a police dash-cam video that defies the norm, Sgt. Soltura and Jermaine Ford were recently filmed playing a simple game of catch together on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. After the Rosenberg Police Dept. put the coverage on their Facebook page, the scene went viral. Before they knew it the officer and the boy were something of celebrities, even landing a spot on the local news.
The presentation by Stephenson and Morales will follow a ceremony by the student body of Mission West Elementary (where Jermaine attends) which begins at 8am. Both Stephenson and Morales will be honoring the duo with resolutions as well.
Mission West Elementary, is located at 7325 Clodine-Reddick Road, Houston.
