Grant-A-Starr Foundation’s 6th Annual Family Fun Run & Walk is March 22

The Grant-A-Starr Foundation is holding its 6th Annual Family Fun Run & Walk! The charity event date has been set for Saturday, March 22, at Sugar Land Memorial Park, 15300 University Blvd, Sugar Land.

The 1 mile Fun Run/Walk begins at 9AM and the 5K Chip Timed Run/Walk begins at 9:30AM. Race day registration is available online at http://www.grantastarr.org. An award ceremony and post race party is at 10:30AM. The course is USATF certified. We will also have a Kid’s Zone sponsored by St. Luke’s Sugar Land Hospital. This is a family-friendly event!

The Grant-A-Starr Foundation was founded to celebrate the life of Grant Starr, a precious seven-year-old boy who passed away from unidentified virus. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization created solely for the purpose of advancing diagnostic testing to save children’s lives.

What makes the Grant-A-Starr Foundation Fun Run unique is the student steering committee. It is made up of local area high school volunteers who have taken a deep personal interest in the event. Building upon the success of the first five years the student group, led by committee chairperson R.J. Slater, is setting aggressive sponsorship goals for the 2014 run.

Slater, a senior at Clements HS, says, “We have been blessed by great sponsorship in the past, and now we want to take it to the next level! Our goal this year is to raise $50,000 for the Foundation and obviously, we need generous donations from the Sugar Land and Greater Houston business communities. There are many levels of support available, and both businesses and individuals are encouraged to participate. We welcome them all!”

This year’s event includes both a Team and School Challenge. The Team Challenge is open to all companies, organizations, or groups with a minimum of 4 and maximum of 10 participants per team.
