On February 27, Billy Monroe Regenhard was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant, Deputy Mary Gremen. Rengenhard was also sentenced to 5 years for family violence assault, 10 years for Robbery after the court revoked the 4-year probation awarded in 2011. Regenhard entered a guilty plea before the 434th District Court and requested Judge James H. Shoemake determine his fate after a full punishment hearing.
This most recent incident began on March 27, 2012 when Regenhard assaulted his girlfriend, and a neighbor who came to her aid. When deputies arrived on the scene Regenhard bolted from the scene and could not be taken into custody without the assistance of a Taser according to reports.
While getting a “Fit for Jail” evaluation at Oakbend Hospital the medical staff told Deputy Gremen he would have to be re-cuffed in the front so an EKG could be administered. When she released one hand, Regenhard spun around and cold-cocked Grenen in the face.
The impact shattered her nose, facial bones, and several teeth. Deputy Gremen’s 20+ years of experience and training surfaced and she along with several other responding deputies regained control of Regenhard and took him back into custody without further incident. It was after he was back in custody that Gremen realized just how bad she was hurt.
Judge James Shoemake gave Regenhard 25+ years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to review his behavior.
