Elementary school youngsters in Fort Bend ISD took part in Read Across America Day by welcoming guest readers to their campus. Sponsored by the National Education Association, Read Across America Day is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on the birthday of popular children’s author Dr. Seuss.

FBISD students celebrated the day by taking part in various activities. Briargate Elementary School, for instance, invited guest readers to take part in their “Share Your Love of Literacy” program, developed to emphasize the importance of literacy and to show students that community leaders enjoy reading as much as school leaders.

Colony Meadows Elementary School students welcomed numerous guest readers as well, including Superintendent of Schools Charles Dupre and Associate Superintendent Dr. Phillys Hill. The guest readers chose their favorite books to read to students in the school’s library.

Lantern Lane Elementary School students enjoyed events throughout the week, including a Green Eggs and Ham breakfast, a Scholastic book fair and Open House. “

Sugar Mill Elementary School also celebrated Read Across America Day by inviting school and district administrators, parents, business leaders, and former students to read to youngsters. Among the guest readers were members of Kempner High School’s “Cougar” baseball team and former Sugar Mill students.
