Reader gives a warning to motorists

Dear Editor,

When you travel along Hwy. 6 and Lexington and Hwy. 59 South, if you see a green light, Do Not Cross the line into the intersection with your car until you can see enough empty space in your lane for the entire vehicle to completely be out of the intersection space. Even if your light is showing green, STOP.

If you drive your vehicle into the intersection, and for whatever reason, the next light turning red causes the vehicles ahead of you to stop and impede your progress thus trapping your vehicle in the intersection, you can be given a ticket for blocking the intersection, Most probably a Sugar Land motorcycle policeman will emerge from his waiting place in an adjacent parking lot and come out quickly to issue you a traffic citation, the fine of which will be $171.

Of course he will tell you that you can take a Driver Safety course ($107) in lieu of paying for the $171 fine.

It appears a lot of time these tickets are often issued toward the end of each month when Sugar Land motorcycle policemen have a quota to fill for the month.

Sincerely,
Concerned resident
