Stafford MSD Board names interim superintendent

By Karen Daniels

SMSDBoardAs expected, Allen ISD formally offered Dr. Lance Hindt the position of superintendent of their school district, and he accepted. The SMSD Board of Trustees have now officially accepted his resignation, and his last day on the job will be Friday, March 21.

The Board also approved the hiring of former Fort Bend Superintendent, Dr. Don Hooper, as Interim Superintendent.  Dr. Hooper was named Fort Bend ISD’s sixth superintendent and served the district from February 1995 through June 2002.

Dr. Hooper is the founder of the education consulting firm, Center for Quality Leadership. His work history includes “37 years of experience in public education, serving 33 years as an educator, instructional leader, and district administrator—serving 25 years as superintendent in five school districts ranging in size from 110 students to 60,000 students.”

SMSD Board of Trustees have put together a survey to assist them in finding their next superintendent. This form is available at each school campus, department offices, and on the district website in English and Spanish. The responses are confidential. The following questions are:

What do you consider to be the two or three most significant strengths of the district?

What do you consider to be the two or three most important issues or concerns facing the district?

Please share your vision of how our schools may excel in preparing students for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century.

What kind of administrative leadership should the next superintendent offer in terms of:

Professional qualifications? Personal characteristics? What additional comments or suggestions regarding the superintendent search would you like to make?

Board President, Ed Castillo, had this to say about the next phase for the District. “We are thrilled to have Dr. Hooper join our SMSD family and excited to begin collaborating with him and gain from his vast public education and leadership development experience. We at the SMSD District are very fortunate to have someone of Dr. Hooper’s stature during this very important SMSD leadership transition.”
