AHS Prom Fashion – not just glitz and glamour

AHS PALS – organizers of the event – Mercedes Mackay, Jenny Kaufman, Erin Coleman, and Kayzeen Kepadia.

PALS from Stephen F. Austin High School held a fashion show at the school on Friday, February 21. Austin High School boys and girls, including some faculty members, strutted down the catwalk, modeling clothes from David’s Bridal, Men’s Wearhouse, and Parvani Vida. The Prom Fashion Show provided a chance to bring local businesses together to dress up the students and provide options for preparing them for prom.

But, the show is more than just glitz and glam.  Jenny Kaufman, one of the organizers of the show, said, “The show is about giving back to less fortunate high school students so they can have the fun and exciting prom that all teenagers should experience.”

The members of Stephen F Austin PALS club have yet again set a model example for the community. Prom Fashion Show is organized by the students to raise money for The Cinderella Cinderfella Project, Inc. Funds from the admission price went directly to the nonprofit organization. The Cinderella-Cinderfella vision is to give a memory of kindness, caring and friendship to high school seniors with emotional, financial and family challenges.

They do this partially by providing these deserving seniors with a memory of a prom night filled with dignity, pride and self-esteem. Erin Coleman, another organizer of the event, had this to say, “As one of the leading organizers of prom fashion show for the past two years it has been a heartfelt privilege getting to work with my fellow peers and community businesses to help make an impact on others’ lives. Thank you for everyone’s generous support and contribution. It is a fundraiser that I hope Austin high school will continue in future.” So, while cultivating their fashion chops at the Prom Fashion Show, students learned the importance of giving back.
