Skeeters sign Moss, Pauley, Ryal to 2014 Roster

The Sugar Land Skeeters announced today that the club has agreed to terms with three additional players for the 2014 season: returning outfielder Steve Moss, right-handed pitcher David Pauley and former Major League infielder/outfielder Rusty Ryal.

Moss, 30, split the 2013 season between Sugar Land and the Diablos Rojos del Mexico of the Mexican League. In 63 games for the Skeeters, the California native hit .318 (75×236) with nine home runs and 43 RBI. During his summer stint in Mexico, he collected five homers and 15 RBI in 23 games. Moss, an original member of Sugar Land’s inaugural team in 2012, owns a career .276 (1163×4221) average with 603 RBI over 12 professional minor league seasons. Drafted out of Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, Moss was a 29th round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the June 2002 Draft.

Pauley, 30, went 5-3 with a 3.44 ERA (26ER/68IP) in 12 starts for the Skeeters in 2013. He joined the club midseason following a stint with Arizona’s Triple A Reno, where he posted an 0-1 record in four relief appearances. Pauley spent parts of five seasons in the Major Leagues with Boston (2006, 2008), Seattle (2010-11), Detroit (2011), Los Angeles-AL (2012) and Toronto (2012), combining for a 9-19 record and 4.68 ERA (109ER/209.2IP) in 91 appearances (20 starts). Originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the eighth round of the June 2001 Draft out of Longmont High School in Colorado, Pauley is 74-76 with a lifetime 3.90 ERA (588ER/1358IP) over 12 minor league seasons.

Ryal, 30, spent last season with the Dodgers’ Triple A Albuquerque and Angels’ Triple A Salt Lake, hitting at a .267 (100×375) clip with 50 RBI. Ryal spent Major League time with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009-10, hitting .263 (70×266) during that span. The Oklahoma native also played 33 games for the Yomiuri Giants of the Japan Central League in 2011. Drafted by Arizona in the 14th round of the June 2005 Draft out of Oklahoma State University, Ryal owns a .281 (736×2619) career minor league average with 382 RBI over seven professional seasons.

Skeeters Host Professional Tryouts, March 22-23

The Sugar Land Skeeters will hold a two-day professional tryout on Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23, at Constellation Field.

Pitcher and catcher tryouts are scheduled for Saturday, March 22, beginning at 10 a.m. Position players, including catchers, will then report on Sunday, March 23 at 10 a.m. Those interested in participating may visit and complete the registration. Registration cost is $75 per player and includes a tryout camp T-shirt.
