Fort Bend Seniors champions march for Meals On Wheels with local officials
March for Meals is a national campaign held during the month of March, initiated and sponsored by the Meals On Wheels Association of America to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of local communities. Hundreds of Senior Nutrition Programs across the United States like Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels are participating.
“In this tough economy, the food and human contact we provide to seniors in this community is needed more than ever,” said David Vasquez, Chairman of the Board, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels. “We need the community to come out and support Fort Bend Seniors and their need for a hot meal. Our clients are counting on us. We can’t let them down.”
24 Champions form Fort Bend County came out and delivered meals on Wednesday March, 19, ranging from mayors, to city council members, to deputies, to social workers, volunteers and board members.
“This is so important to our community, each time I deliver meal I am not only reminded that I should deliver more meals; but, that I need to encourage my constituents to deliver when and as often as they can.” Stated Mayor, Vincent Morales, of Rosenberg Texas.
Fort Bends Seniors would like to thank all of the March for Meals Champions that have participated the entire month of March, Fort Bend Seniors Congregate, Center Christ Church School, Pepperoni’s Pizza, Shipleys Donuts, Shultz’ BBQ, Legacy Ford, Classic Chevrolet, Mayor Vincent Morales, Mayor Evalyn Moore, Commissioner James Patterson, Sugar Land City Council Member Amy Mitchell, Deputies of the Fort Bend Sheriff’s Office – Chris Carlson, David Carven, Richard Morris and Sargent Nadine Sutton, Sugar Land Assistant Chief of Police Eric Robbins, Kendleton City Council Member Etta Patterson, Kendleton Ciy Council Member Ray Davis, Ft. Bend County Director of Finance Pam Gubble, Fort Bend County Director of Social Services Ana Gonzalez, Fort Bend District Attorney John Healey, Bill Forkner Fort Bend County Medical Reserves Corps, James Winzel representing Commissioner Richard Morrision, David Vasquez, Chairman of the Board FBS, Wanda Sdao, Board Member FBS and Ray Aquilar, FBS Board Secretary.
Each Champion listed above either held an event, collected funds or delivered meals during the month of March.
