Meadows Place Neighborhood Watch helps homeowners save insurance $$

By Karen Daniels

At the March 19 neighborhood watch meeting, held at the Meadows Place Tactical Training Center, this month’s topic was about securing your house and saving money. Residents who are interested should schedule their inspection with Sargeant Dottei with the police department’s Crime Prevention, cp@cityofmeadowsplace.org

Typically within seven to 10 days an officer will come to your house for the assessment. Captain Jack Ashton advised that different insurance companies have different guidelines, but typically the amount saved would be in the following areas: 1-5% – Deadbolts with key entry; solid core or metal doors; window locks that cannot be flipped or turned; sliding glass doors that have securable devices.

Fifteen % – monitored alarm system; interior/exterior speakers; sensors on doors and windows.

The City of Meadows Place does require an annual alarm permit. April’s meeting will be Wednesday, April 16, at 7:00pm.

In other community news, the West Airport project is moving along. TxDOT has chosen a construction company, and though the start date has not yet been announced, a pre-construction meeting is scheduled for April 16. Mayor Jessup said, “We will have road closings within the city to prevent commuters from detouring through the city and causing problems.”

The entrances to Meadow Valley and Amblewood will be closed during construction. This project is part of the Ft. Bend Mobility Project of 2007. Meadows Place coupled these funds with the “federally funded TIP plan.” The Mayor made assurances that he will keep residents and businesses apprised of upcoming construction events and changes.

Lastly, the Home and Garden Club will host their 2nd Annual Meadows Home & Garden Tour on Saturday, April 26th. Their mottos is: Don’t move, IMPROVE! Get ideas from homes that have made renovations inside and out. See improvements that have added value to their properties. Homeowners are usually present during the tour and can answer your questions.

Proceeds from this event contribute to the Home and Garden Club Scholarship Awards which are available to eligible Meadows Place residents.

Applications are being accepted now. Go to: meadowshomegardenclub.com. Pre-sale tickets are $10 and $15 at the door.
