Crowd opposes Walmart in Fulshear area
Misinformation adds to uproar
Reports indicate that some Fort Bend County residents oppose a proposed Walmart in the west part of the county on FM 1093 and FM 1463 in the vicinity of Fulshear. Even a petition opposing the store is allegedly backed by Fort Bend County Commissioner Andy Meyers.
A reader told the Star that issues relating to the opposition are about potential traffic, possible crime and others, like the water and treatment facility to be used by the store, and it would be too close to the Cross Creek Ranch subdivision, maintain others. A gathering last week in Fulshear turned out a large group, close to 300 or even more area residents, and some even heard an apartment complex was being considered in that same area…for low income renters! It was a rumor and it probably further incited those with legitimate concerns about the supercenter.
Queries are pending to make better sense of the situation and one elected official, the mayor of Fulshear, Tommy Kuykendall, has stepped up to the plate. The proposed Walmart, by the way, will employ about 300 people and is reportedly planned for opening in 2015.
