WCJC Pioneers pitcher JT Jakubik hurls the ball toward home plate during the Pioneers’ game against Colorado Bend College on Monday afternoon in Wharton. The game – which was delayed for more than an hour due to a problem obtaining an umpire – was the first of several WCJC will play in the following days. The Pioneers next play Galveston College in a doubleheader at Tiger Field on Thursday. Game time is 3 p.m. Coach Keith Case said his team is “competing well and I’m proud of what they’ve done.”
WCJC third baseman Efren Garcia leaps high to catch a throw from second base that stopped a Colorado Bend College player dead in his tracks. Garcia would tag the runner out for an exciting play that was part of Monday’s game held at Tiger Field. The Pioneers have 18 conference games to go, with their next game scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday at Tiger Field against Galveston College. The doubleheader kicks off at 3 p.m. Coach Keith Case said his team is “competing well and I’m proud of what they’ve done.”
