Blood moon over Fort Bend – first total lunar eclipse of 2014

The entire eclipse was visible this Tuesday in Fort Bend, and there were no wolves heard howling. How could they? There was no moon to see as it was covered by the earth. At about 2:50 a.m. the full moon was darkened as it passed through all of the earth’s shadow. That made it “blood red” in color.

This lunar eclipse is the first of four total eclipses that will occur between April 2014 and September 2015, called a tetrad series. The next one will be Oct. 8 and it is expected to also be visible locally. Next year, the two others will occur April 4 and Sept. 28, 2015.
