Stafford MSD names lone finalist for Superintendent
By Karen Daniels
The SMSD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the selection of Dr. Robert Bostic for the position of Superintendent. The State of Texas requires a 21 day waiting period before the Board can formally approve his hiring. This will be the first district that Dr. Bostic will lead if named the superintendent. On May 7, three days prior to the general election, a meeting is scheduled for the consideration by the Board of Trustees to formally hire Dr. Bostic.
Born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Dr. Bostic currently holds the position of Assistant Superintendent for Academic Programs at Denton ISD, which he was named in June 2012. “I have the pleasure of supporting and guiding our principals in secondary and elementary schools…I also manage and work with all of our directors.” His experience includes elementary and intermediate principal for the past 15 years in Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD, Richardson ISD, and Oklahoma City Public Schools. Dr. Bostic earned his Bachelor’s degree from Langston University and his Masters of Education degree form the University of Central Oklahoma. Most recently he received his superintendent’s certificate and Ed.D at the University of North Texas.
Since his arrival in Denton in 2009, Dr. Bostic’s bio states that he has made using “technology as a tool a top priority to help teachers and administrators streamline their work with teaching and learning in the district throughout Texas.” He founded the Technology Integration Academy that is held each summer in Denton, Texas, and the Denton I-Bot competitive robotics league for elementary and middle school students.
The recipient of many awards and honors for academic excellence, his bio also states that Dr. Bostic was “successful in leading diverse campuses…with student populations that had majority minority populations.” The last campus he worked for was a Texas Business Education Coalition Honor Roll Campus; an honor that less than 4% of schools in Texas receive. There is a Meet & Greet scheduled for the community on Tuesday, April 29 from 5:30pm – 6:30pm at the Margaret Havens Library Media Center located at Stafford High School.
