On Saturday, March 29, members and visitors of the Fort Bend Chapter of the Texas German Society attended the 31st Annual State Convention held in Bellville, Texas, at the Austin County Fair Convention & Expo Center.  It was hosted by the Bluebonnet Chapter of the Texas German Society.

The day started with sweets, coffee and juice, vendors, and a silent auction to benefit the Scholarship Fund.  The group was welcomed by Herbert Schumann from the Bluebonnet Chapter and The Honorable Carolyn Bilski, Judge for Austin County.  The speakers during the day included Dr. Jim Kearney on “The German Language – It’s Future in Texas?”, Ann Lindemann on “Industry – First German Settlement in Texas”, and Judge Karl Micklitz on “The Vereins in Austin County”.

Entertainment during the day included the Concordia Gesang Verein directed by Egon Schackmann, Music by Enzian Buam, the Bellville High School Polka Band directed by John Pritchett, and the LaGrange High School German Dancers.  Jochen Olbricht, the German Consulate, spoke to the group.  A German lunch served.  The Texas German Society had a business meeting with new officers elected by acclamation.  One of our long time members, Dolores Kueck who died on February 11, 2014, was remembered during the memorial service.

The Fort Bend Chapter.is looking forward to co-hosting the 2015 Texas German Society Convention along with the Katy Tri-County Chapter.
