Senior citizens upset over the T.E. Harman Center management

On Tuesday, April 15, Mike Goodrum, Assistant City Manager of Sugar Land, held his second meeting in response to a petition signed and submitted by members of the T.E. Harman Center for senior citizens. The gist of the petition was the alleged mismanagement by the current manager of T.E. Harman to one of her staff.

These meetings took on an aura of being clandestine as only selected members were called and informed about them. However, due to word of mouth, over 60 people showed up for the first meeting, where they voiced a multitude of complaints about the manager and her management of the center.

There was more of the same at the second meeting, although fewer people showed up because again, only a few were informed about the meeting.

We, as tax payers and dues paying members of the center, deserve better than this treatment.

Programs and services have been cut. Many people have stopped coming. Yet, the current manager has increased her staff by 75% so she can take off whenever she likes. Also, she very seldom attends any of the special activities put on by the center.

To put it mildly, the management at the center has gotten worse with each passing month. If it were a ship, it would surly be called the “Titanic”.

Something must be done to restore the center to the user friendly place it use to be.

All of the seniors are extremely grateful to the City of Sugar Land for providing this wonderful place for us. However, with the right management, it could be so much better.
