Tracy McGrady to make professional debut May 10
The Sugar Land Skeeters’ right-handed pitcher Tracy McGrady will make his professional debut for the club on Saturday, May 10 against the Atlantic League opponent Somerset Patriots, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT. Fans are encouraged to tune in to ESPN3, ESPN’s digital platform and carrier of all 70 Sugar Land Skeeters home games this season.
Following the outing, McGrady will be made available to the media at Constellation Field. Media planning to attend are asked to RSVP with MJ Burns at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Saturday’s start will mark McGrady’s first regular season appearance of 2014 and the first of his professional baseball career. The 6-foot-8 right-hander is scheduled to start and be kept to a limited pitch count. McGrady officially made the Skeeters Opening Day roster as a Spring Training invitee, tossing 1.0 inning and allowing three hits in his last outing against Alvin Community College in April.
McGrady, 34, spent 16 years in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors (1997-2000), Orlando Magic (2000-04), Houston Rockets (2004-09), New York Knicks (2009-10), Detroit Pistons (2010-11) and Atlanta Hawks (2011-12). During that span, McGrady earned two scoring titles (2002-04), seven All-Star Game nominations (2001-07) and was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2001. In 2013, McGrady retired with more than 18,000 points and 5,000 rebounds in his career.
