Betty Jane Nicks Sneed born 11/25/1930 in Thibodaux, LA, passed away 5/8/2014 in Houston, TX.  She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Arch H. Sneed, her parents Elijah Elmer Nicks and Eliska Josephine (Grice) Nicks, 3 siblings: Vera Ann Greaves, Ora Fife, and Elijah Elmer (Jigs) Nicks, Jr.  She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Melane Sneed and fiancée, Kenneth John Athey, the children of her heart, Maria Tess Veneracion and husband, Marcus, their children, Mia and Max, and Al Cabatingan, three sisters: Eleanor Kathryn Moore, Cecilia St.Romain, and Florence Trowbridge, brother-in-law, Lt. Col. Charles Sneed, and sisters-in-law: Martha Smith, Shirley Cline, and Jeannette D’Amico, numerous nieces and nephews to include Troy Allen Sneed who was by her side, and wonderful friends: Dr. Alvin and Marilyn Wexler and family.

She loved golf, dancing, and cooking for friends at both intimate and large gatherings.  She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Ladies Oriental Shrine.  She is an honorary lifetime director for the Houston Women’s Golf Charities and worked with the Good Samaritan Foundation.

Betty was a career women her entire life.  She began as an operator at AT&T where she moved up to middle management.

Her favorite position was administrator at St. Anthony’s Nursing Home where she enjoyed listening to the life stories of the residents.  Next she opened Betty Sneed Personnel.

Later it was on to assisting families with pre-arranging funerals and finally semi-retiring with her husband as his administrative assistant.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Maria Tess (Nurse Mary) Veneracion, RN, Al Cabatingan, PT, and Father Neil (Scotty) Innes for their years of loving care, friendship and devotion to both Arch and Betty Sneed.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to Calvary Episcopal Church, PO Box 330 in Richmond, TX  77406, or to Adoption Knowledge Affiliates, Inc., PO Box 4082, Austin, TX  78765, or the charity of your choice.
