Once being a premier Mexican restaurant in the River Oaks area, opening a second restaurant in the Sugar Land area was big news back in the day. It opened with rave reviews and maintained a favorable reputation around the bend. But how does it compare today with 10 times more restaurants in the area to compete with?
Early on a beautiful Friday evening, there was about a 15 to 20 minute wait for outside seating. After 35 minutes, our inquiries discovered that they had inadvertently scratched our name off the list. Once that was discovered the manager promptly made arrangements to seat us at a nice table out on the patio.
The menu offered typical tex-mex options with a few unique options in each category. The shrimp stuffed jalapenos were sampled as an appetizer. They were generously portioned, similar to fried jalapeno poppers, very tasty and fresh, but were just marginally warm by the time they were brought to the table. The Avocado Adobe, stuffed with chicken was selected for an entrée, as well as the Steak Chimichanga. Both were excellent, hot, and satisfying. The strawberry margaritas were good and served in giant martini glasses which made for an attractive presentation as the red strawberry addition streaked down the sides of the sloped glass.
The restaurant was clean and inviting, with seating outside on a very nice patio. Two of the four pieces of silverware had green food on them when we were seated. While the waitress did promptly switch them out, it was a big turnoff, so for that I deduct points. Generally the experience was pleasant and satisfying, but with three glitches it was not outstanding.
