Cell phone sale goes wrong

By LeaAnne Klentzman

cellphoneTwo arrested in robbery related to cell phone sale.

Last Friday night about 9 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies responded to an aggravated robbery call at the McDonald’s in the 9300 block of Highway 6S near Bissonnet in far northeast Fort Bend County.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they learned that the victim had agreed to meet with some unidentified men to buy a cell phone.

The group gathered in the MacDonald’s parking lot. As the purported exchange began it immediately became something else.

Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel said, “The victim had met with the subjects at that location for the purpose of purchasing a cell phone. Instead, the suspects displayed a handgun and threatened to kill the victim and then stole in excess of $700.”

As the suspects fled the scene, they crashed in to the victim’s car and then shot at him several times. No physical injuries were reported.

Haenel said as the investigation continued, the suspects were identified and arrested; they are Javonte McGill, 20, and Romelius Rhone, 19, both of the Richmond section of unincorporated Fort Bend County.

Both remain in the Fort Bend County jail under $80,000 bond.
