Lasagna House
16089 City Walk
Sugar Land, TX 77478

Cuisine:  Italian

Nestled in the heart of Sugar Land Town Square, adjacent to City Hall in this upscale area, one would expect this restaurant to be…well, upscale and pricey.  It was a very nicely appointed place with a comfortable feel, tablecloths, cloth napkins, and adequate space between the tables.

While offering the standard Italian fare, they also have a special menu just for the variety of lasagna’s offered.  One of the more popular items is the shrimp lasagna.  For those that can’t decide on just one item, several combination entrée’s were offered such as the traditional lasagna with fettuccine alfredo and ravioli combination.

The lasagna was warm, not hot when brought to the table, but the other two entrée’s were hot.  The sauce on the lasagna and ravioli was light red in color and looked like pureed fresh tomatoes before it was cooked.   While it was good, it lacked the rich, robust flavor and color of a sauce that we would expect from great Italian cuisine.  The alfredo had a nice pleasing flavor.  Of the desserts, Tiramisu and Death by Chocolate cake were sampled.  The name of the chocolate cake was slightly deceiving as it was only half chocolate.  The other half was white and not at all what I expected.  They definitely need a name change on that one. The Tiramisu, on the other hand, was very enjoyable. Overall, the food was satisfying and well portioned, but not outstanding.

The service was generally good, although our waitress disappeared for a while when we needed something and had to send another waitress looking for her.  Otherwise, she was very polite and accommodating.

The prices were reasonable, especially for that area.   The ambiance was inviting and pleasant.  If you are looking for an average family friendly restaurant that won’t break your wallet, this is the place to go.

Overall Rating: 4 stars
