Outfielder Adam Godwin returns to Skeeters
The Sugar Land Skeeters have agreed to terms with former Skeeter and 2013 Atlantic League All-Star outfielder Adam Godwin for the 2014 season. Godwin rejoins the club as outfielder Dustin Martin has recently signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks system, accepting an assignment to Double A Mobile.
Godwin, 31, began the 2014 season with Ciudad del Carmen of the Mexican League, where he hit .217 (10×46) in 11 games. Last season, the Alabama native played 130 games with Sugar Land and was named an Atlantic League All-Star, hitting .282 (157×556) while establishing a league and career high of 50 stolen bases in 2013. Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 11th round of the June 2005 Draft, Godwin enters his fourth season of Atlantic League play, having also spent time with Southern Maryland (2011) and Lancaster (2011-12). In his 10th season of professional baseball, Godwin owns a .290 (944×3255) average with 256 stolen bases in 901 career games.
Martin, 30, signed with Arizona for the second time in as many seasons, having also signed with the organization after playing 30 games for Sugar Land last year. While with Double A Mobile in 2013, the lefty hit .295 (64×217) with eight home runs and 29 RBI over 73 games. This year, Martin made the Skeeters Opening Day roster and hit .261 (12×46) in his first 12 games as the team’s primary right fielder. The Texas native and Sam Houston State University product was originally a 26th round pick of the New York Mets in the June 2006 Draft, and owns a career .276 (927×3356) average with 466 RBI in 948 minor league games.
