Three Seguin Elementary School students were named winners of their school’s annual Bilingual Spelling Competition. Fifth-grader Saul Luna Guevara (1st place), third-grader Daniel Simaj (2nd place) and third-grader Kaitlyn Reyes (3rd place) competed against 22 other Seguin students in hopes of advancing to the District 2014 Bilingual Spelling Competition.

As 1st and 2nd place winners, Guevara and Simaj represented Seguin at the district competition.

The bilingual spelling competition is more challenging than the typical spelling bee in that it requires students to spell words correctly in Spanish, translate the words in English, and then correctly spell the English version of the words.

Seguin Elementary administrators thank all of the contest participants and facilitators, including Nelly Gonzalez (the Hugger) and Bonnie Knecht (videographer) for making the event a success.
