A website for the “Mrs. Kravitz” in us all
By LeaAnne Klentzman
Frequently we complain about our “government” withholding information and making it hard to gather. Well, you are not going to believe this, but Fort Bend County is sharing, they are sharing public information with the public! Here is how it goes.
Fort Bend County now makes available what they call Active Emergency Calls. So, like “Mrs. Kravitz”, the nosey neighbor lady in the Bewitched comedy of yesteryear, you too can have the neighborhood 411. In order to find the site, an inquiring mind would visit: www.fortbendcountytx.gov. Once on the County’s website, visit the Sheriff’s Office link. In the middle of the Sheriff’s page, one with an inquiring mind can find the link for Active Emergency Calls. Click on that link. Bingo! There you are, viewing what emergency calls they are sharing and some idea of where that ambulance that just passed your corner is headed. To be honest, thus far, it appears that only calls related to an ambulance run are being listed but it is a start and quite handy for all the “Mrs. Kravitz” types. Yet most importantly, it is the sharing of information to the public that is paid for by the public.
Also on this website an inquiring mind can gather an assorted collection of the day to day operations of the criminal justice system. For example, an inquiring mind might want to inquire into the guest list of the Hoosegow, or maybe where to find one’s lost livestock, as well as how to visit an inmate or fund their commissary. Oh, for those who have never had to post bail… Well, this site puts things like that, and paying child-support right at your fingertips. Whoda ever dreamed?
A plethora of information is available on the Fort Bend County website all across the board. However, don’t say you were not warned… once that inquiring mind begins to wander into the abyss of public records…hours pass before you realize it. “Mrs. Kravitz” would be proud.
