The Fort Bend Junior Service League (FBJSL) is pleased to announce that Laura Taylor was recently named as the 2013-2014 Volunteer of the Year.  A member of the League since 2005, Laura has served on a variety of committees and placements within the League and has held numerous leadership positions within the organization.

Laura worked on the Sugar Plum Market for years and served as Co-Chair of the event for two of those years. She has also worked directly with several of the League’s Core Placements, even opening up her home for the CASA Home Tour. She has served on the Nominating Committee and the Advisory Council for the League. This year

Laura double placed on Sugar Plum Market and FBSJL’s Spring Fling, contributing to the success of both events. In addition, she has volunteered alongside her daughter, Reyann, with the Fort Bend Teen Service League (FBTSL) at several events. Laura is a creative genius, highly organized, incredibly motivating and encouraging to others, and exemplifies the League’s key values: community, volunteerism and leadership.

In addition to recognizing the FBJSL Volunteer of the Year, the League would like to recognize several other special volunteers. The 2013-2014 Provisional of the Year is Ginny McCord. Ginny started her League career by volunteering with Child Advocates of Fort Bend.

The 2013-2014 Sustainer of the Year is Judy Maddison. Judy has been an integral part of the League since 2011, volunteering at numerous events and hosting the Sustainer Membership Coffee for several years. She is always the first to help someone in need and brings a smile to any situation. Lastly, the Fort Bend Teen Service League (FBTSL) recognized Valencia Vara as the 2013-2014 Teen League Volunteer of the Year.

This is Valencia’s second year in the Teen League, and she is a member of the FBTSL Board.  She completed 14 projects this year and will be returning to the Teen League Board next year as Vice-President. Valencia is a sophomore at Clements High School and is the daughter of FBJSL member Vanessa Vara.

The FBJSL and FBTSL are honored to work with such great women and teens that embody the highest level of volunteerism and further the mission of the League. For additional information about FBJSL and the FBTSL, please visit  www.fbjsl.com.
