On May 17, Kelly Sargeant, won First Place at Toastmaster’s District 56 Spring Conference’s International Speech Competition.  This prestigious award was earned by winning first place in a series of competitions that started at the club, Sugar Land Toastmasters, and culminated at the District level.

District 56 includes 192 clubs with a total of 4,300 members and extends as far North as Huntsville, west to San Antonio, East to the Texas – Louisiana border and South to the Gulf Coast.

Sargeant will now proceed on to the semi-finals at the 83rd Annual International Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to be held August 20-23, 2014 where she will be 1 of 90 contestants competing for the title of World Champion of Public Speaking.  Attendance at the 2014 International Convention is expected to be the biggest in Toastmasters’ history and is projected to maximize the space at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.

“Although I’ve won first runner-up on two occasions, the opportunity to compete at this next level will be challenging as well as a very humbling experience.  My passion is to use my public speaking ability to uplift humanity all over the world.  Thanks to Toastmasters, I’m going to have the privilege and honor to do just that!” says Sargeant.
