Your home router a public Wi-Fi hotspot?

If your internet server is Comcast, your home router could be a public Wi-Fi hotspot.  That’s what some reports said about what would happen due to Comcast swapping out customers’ old routers with new ones.

Out in the streets, there are concerns about the devices believed to allow the public internet access.  But, it looks like the new system is meant for guests at home, not on the street. Apparently anyone hooking up to what is called the “Xfinity Wi-Fi” public network must first sign in with their own Comcast customer credentials.

Because there was no value in having Internet at home while away, with the hotspot locations connecting to the Internet, this can apparently now be done remotely. Just last week, the hotspot topic was brought up by Fort Bend County Commissioner James Patterson as this could impact IT Internet county expenditures.
