The Afterburner 06/18/14

No Facebook required- Last week I witnessed something refreshing that generally goes unnoticed. It was a Richmond Police Sergeant serving the public. She did it without fanfare. She did it with courtesy, kindness and compassion which is in stark contrast to a neighboring city that spends all it’s time trying to get recognition for ridiculous staged videos. While driving in the Walmart parking lot, the Richmond Sergeant stopped her patrol car, got out and chased down a shopper who had lost a bag of fresh vegetables in the parking lot. She got back into her car and continued through the lot. Then, what do we citizens witness … she gets out (did I mention it was 100+ in the shade!) and begins checking the handicapped parking! Wow! She was applauded by passing shoppers. No fanfare, no cameras, no footballs and certainly no silly music videos. This young woman is a shining example of a fine public servant. Richmond Police Department is a better place because they select personnel with this type of character.
Speaking of Character- Will the challenges of questionable character forever follow Rosenberg? While they seem to have mastered Facebook posting and Youtube videoing, they seem to be struggling with some of their mid-level supervisors. One in particular who reportedly participated in AND allowed hazing. A few weeks back the tactical team was playing around in what can only be described as a hazing incident; one of the “newbies” was shot with a grenade launcher with a less than lethal projectile. Although it was less than lethal, he had to be carried out and missed more than a few days of work. We hear it is all on tape. Um hum…Good thing that chief selection worked out like it did, or things could have really gotten brutal. We’re told the incident remains under investigation. We’ll wait…
Hope for the future- For the last several weeks another Fort Bend law enforcement agency has had to investigate allegations of rumor-mongering, amongst others, by the “Heir not so Apparent” police chief contender who remains a mid-line supervisor. Those investigations have been completed; back to policing kids! It will be interesting to see if the former police chief now city manager will get out of the way and let the new police chief do his job. Only time will tell. We’ll wait…
Elvis has left the building – Remember all of last week’s gyrating. Oh my how things have changed in the last 7 days. Yes, we are talking about a replacement candidate for Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Jim Richard. Currently his wife Laura Richard is serving as his replacement until the next election cycle. Yes, last week I said 2016, knowing full well it was 2014…my bad. Anyway, the Republican precinct chairs for that particular precinct (4) met Monday night, June 16, and voted 24-22 to postpone the selection vote for the replacement candidate until June 30th. So, again, clear as mud in your eye? Only this time we have a list of potential candidates, they say they will not change… At the 16th meeting the following candidates introduced themselves and sought the support of the chairs for a place on the November ballot:
Justine Joyce- 30+ year Sugar Land Police officer and manager, Joan Cain- Sugar Land attorney, Warren Diepraarm-Montgomery county prosecutor and DWI guru, David Hunter-Sugar Land lawyer and visiting municipal judge, Mike Rozell-former County Judge and real estate guru, and last, but not least, political activist and Sugar Land lawyer Paul Sullivan. And to those poor chairs that have to make the decision in two weeks… good luck getting any sleep or family time until your vote is cast…. Don’t answer the doorbell with a gun, it might just be a JP candidate!
Pick’n on Widow-women - Well, it seems we spoke too soon. The HOA under the umbrella of FCCA has now gotten back to the widow-woman with the protruding patio. Yep, even though the patio in question was built in 2002 and the house has sold twice since then, with clear title….they are going after her. There is a special place for those folks and it’s HOT! There are no excuses, no take backs. We’ll keep you posted.
