Free Friday movie matinees this summer

Fort Bend County Libraries will feature free Friday Movie Matinees at Sugar Land Branch Library, 550 Eldridge, in July. A variety of family films will be shown.

On Friday, July 11, library patrons will be treated to a recently-released animated film based on a children’s book written by Judi Barrett. In this 2013 sequel to the original movie, young inventor Flint Lockwood learns that his water-to-food machine is now cross-breeding animals with food and creating “foodimals.” To prevent a growing army of these creatures from escaping isolation on an island and wreaking havoc on the mainland, Flint and his friends must battle delicious, but deadly, monstrosities like the ferocious tacodiles, slithering apple pie-thons, and vine-swinging shrimpanzees. This film is rated PG. Showtime is 1:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library.

The special feature on Friday, July 25, combines action, adventure and science-fiction. Michael J. Fox plays a 1980s teenager who is transported back in time to 1955, where he accidentally changes the course of history through a series of comic misadventures. This movie is rated PG. Showtime is 1:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library.

The movies are free and open to the public. The libraries’ licensing agreement for public showing of films prohibits them from releasing the name of the movie outside of the library.

For more information about the featured movies, call the branch library at 281-238-2140.
