Mamie George Library hosts free summer movie series

Fort Bend County Libraries will feature a free Summer Movie Series at the Mamie George Branch Library, 320 Dulles Avenue in Stafford, in July. A variety of animated family films will be shown.

The movie on Wednesday, July 9, is an animated feature film about a video-game villain named Ralph, who longs to be known as the good guy. In an attempt to win a medal proving that he truly is a good guy, Ralph jumps from one arcade game to another, looking for opportunities to be the hero. Ralph’s special skill, however, is wrecking things, and he inadvertently creates chaos wherever he goes. When Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade, his only hope is to team up with a young trouble-making glitch from a candy-coated cart-racing game who just might be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a good guy. This film is rated PG. Showtime is 2:00 pm.

On Wednesday, July 16, kids of all ages will have a fun opportunity to participate in a “Marbled Paper” craft activity. Stop by anytime between 2:00 and 4:00 pm, and learn how to make marbled paper for bookmarks, gift cards, and more, using shaving cream and food coloring. Reservations are not required.

The special feature film on Wednesday, July 23, is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved fairy tale, The Snow Queen. This award-winning animated adventure film takes place in the kingdom of Arendelle, which has been cast into eternal winter by the powerful Snow Queen, Elsa. The queen’s sprightly sister, Anna, teams up with a rough-hewn mountaineer named Kristoff and his trusty reindeer, Sven, on an epic journey to break the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls, and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom. This film is rated PG. Showtime is 2:00 pm.

The movies and activities are free and open to the public. The libraries’ licensing agreement for public showing of films prohibits them from releasing the name of the movie outside of the library. For more information, call the branch library at 281-238-2880.
