Mamie George Branch Library host free summer movies

Fort Bend County Libraries will feature a free Summer Movie Series at the Mamie George Branch Library, 320 Dulles Avenue in Stafford, in August. A variety of animated family films will be shown.

The movie on Wednesday, August 6, is an animated comedy adventure from 2013.

This frightfully fun film is a prequel to an earlier film about Mike Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan, who were not always the inseparable pair of scary monsters they are now. Long before they were lurking in closets for a living, Mike and Sulley were just two Scaring majors in college, dreaming of the day they would make children shriek in terror. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met, however, they could not stand each other. Their heated competition to be the most fearsome in their class gets out of hand, and the two monsters are ejected from the prestigious Scare Program. To get their education back on track, they must overcome their differences and work together, eventually becoming the best of friends. This film is rated G. Showtime is 2:00 pm.

On Wednesday, August 13, kids of all ages will have a fun opportunity to participate in a “Slime!” craft activity. Stop by anytime between 2:00 and 4:00 pm, and learn how to make your own slime. Reservations are not required.

The special feature film on Wednesday, August 20, is an animated feature film, starring John Goodman as the voice behind a big, blue, fuzzy monster named James P. (Sully) Sullivan, and Billy Crystal as the voice of Sully’s one-eyed, opinionated sidekick, Mike Wzowski. The two monsters are “scare specialists” whose job it is to harness the energy created when they make small children scream. This energy is bottled and used to generate the power for the city of Monstropolis. When Sully and Mike accidentally let a young girl named Boo into their world behind the closets and under the beds, their lives are thrown into chaos. Boo discovers that the monsters are really more afraid of her than she is of them. This movie is rated G. Showtime is 2:00 pm.

The movies and activities are free and open to the public. The libraries’ licensing agreement for public showing of films prohibits them from releasing the name of the movie outside of the library. For more information, call the Mamie George Branch Library at 281-238-2880.
