Annual Walk with Pride Shoe Program set for August 17

Fort Bend County Department of Social Services will be hosting the Annual “Walk with Pride Shoe Program” August 17. Registration is already underway for eligible school age children living in Fort Bend County who wish to take part in this event. Eligible children will receive a voucher that gives them the opportunity to pick out a new pair of shoes at a participating Payless Shoe store the day of the event.

For more than 20 years, Fort Bend County Social Services has hosted the “Walk with Pride Shoe Program” in collaboration with various contributors including charitable organizations, private businesses, and individuals in the community. Each year before school begins, parents register their child(ren) to receive a complimentary pair of shoes to enter the new school year and “Walk with Pride.”

.All participating children will receive one-on-one attention from a compassionate volunteer throughout the shoe selection process, and is able to leave with a new pair of shoes and of course, a big smile.

Last year one of many students who received a pair of shoes expressed his gratitude by sending a homemade thank you card to all the “Walk with Pride” volunteers and contributors.

While the agency would like to help every child in need, the number of children it can help depends on the amount of funding received. Donations are being accepted at this time and any amount is never too big or too small.  Your donation is tax deductible and can be mailed to Fort Bend County Social Services at 301 Jackson Street, Richmond, Texas 77469 and made out to Fort Bend County Social Services-Walk With Pride.

To learn more about this event, registration information, and donations, please contact Anna Gonzales, Director of Social Services at 281-238-3506.
