Deadline for Wharton County Junior College presidential scholars extended

Wharton County Junior College students who have not yet signed up for the Presidential Scholars Program still have time.

The deadline for applying to the special program has been extended to Monday, Sept. 15.

Group members will have to opportunity to meet one-on-one with the college president and take several all-expenses paid trips, one of which is planned to Washington D.C. Participants will further serve as college ambassadors, greeting the public at WCJC events throughout the year.

Students who have completed at least one semester of coursework at WCJC and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible to apply for the Presidential Scholars Program. Applications can be obtained through the college’s website – www.wcjc.edu – or by contacting program director Catherine Shoppa at shoppac@wcjc.edu or by calling her at 979-532-6918.

Applicants must complete a six-page application that includes a one-page essay. Finalists may be interviewed by a committee comprised of WCJC faculty and staff.
