Great Harvest Bread Company to open a Sugar Land location
Local owners Vijaianand Thirunageswaram and Arunadevi Vijaianand have signed a lease for the new Great Harvest Bread Company bakery to open in Sugar Land later this year. The new bakery will be located at 3344 Highway 6.
“We are excited to open a locally owned, whole grain bakery in town,” says Thirunageswaram, who goes by “Vijai” and lives in the area with his wife, Aruna. “We are excited for our new journey to become entrepreneurs and local business owners while providing high quality products for our friends and neighbors.”
Great Harvest bakeries grind premium Montana wheat berries using a classic stone mill into whole-wheat flour daily to ensure freshness and flavor. It’s the fresh-ground flour that gives Great Harvest bread its rich taste, nutrients and density. The bread also does not contain preservatives, additives or dough conditioners.
“With a love of food and community, this bakery will be a neighborhood gathering place for people to enjoy fresh whole grain bread, made-to-order sandwiches, and delicious handcrafted sweets,” adds Aruna. “We fell in love with Great Harvest bread when we first laid hands on them while visiting cousins in Columbus, Ohio. We immediately decided that we should bring this wonderful awesome tasting bread to our community.”
The opening day menu will include delicious bread like Honey Whole Wheat, a signature bread crafted from five simple ingredients: water, honey, salt, fresh yeast, and wheat flour. Other tasty creations will include a rotating selection of specialty breads like Cinnamon Chip, White, Cheddar Garlic, Cranberry Orange, and Dakota along with a variety of scones, cookies, and muffins. Cookie options include Oatmeal Raisin, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip and Snickerdoodle; scone options include Berry Cream Cheese and Maple Oat.
An add-on menu features other items such as pancake mix, trail mix, dog treats, Groovy Granola, Nine Grain hot cereal, and Nine Grain hot cereal.
“Our goal is to create a fun and inviting atmosphere, and offer customers fresh, great tasting and healthy foods,” says Vijai. “We expect to offer outdoor café seating so customers can enjoy our products. This will be a great spot for lunch!”
A sandwich menu, including Big Sky Chicken Salad, Baja Chipotle Turkey, Chimichurri Roast Beef, Ham and Swiss and Three Seed Hummus Veggie options, will be available throughout the day.
The bakery’s oven and kneading tables will be visible from the café seating area, and free wireless Internet access will be available. Catering orders for offices or events will also be an option.
Originally founded in 1976 in Great Falls, Mont., Great Harvest has more than 200 bakeries located throughout the nation including Alaska and Hawaii. All bakeries are individually owned and operated, and no two are alike. Great Harvest is known for handcrafted breads made with freshly ground whole wheat purchased from family-owned farms. The neighborhood bakeries create an array of legendary fresh-baked breads and sweets, as well as specialty items during the holidays. Great Harvest mills its whole wheat daily. The fresh flour is used within two days to guarantee the best taste and nutritional value.
