Sheriff called to dead body in Kroger parking lot
A grisly discovery was made Sunday afternoon when a shopper found the body of a man in a van in the parking lot of a Fort Bend grocery store, deputies told our news partner, KHOU Channel 11.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the body was discovered around 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Kroger’s on Highway 6.
An autopsy is underway, and authorities don’t have a positive identify for the body but they believe the deceased was a homeless man living out of a Ford Aerostar, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, which is waiting to hear from the Medical Examiner’s office on a cause of death.
A customer was getting ready to go grocery shopping when they noticed blood seeping out of the van, deputies said.
When deputies arrived, they found a man dead in the van. It’s unclear how long he may been dead for.
Deputies had part of the parking lot blocked off for several hours.
“I came through earlier to get gas. I saw the sheriffs putting the caution tape up,” Cameron Wilson, a shopper, said.
One resident said that they never hear about these kind of incidents in this neighborhood.
“I’m amazed – speechless. You never hear about it in this kind of neighborhood, so I’m very surprised,” Jim Alexoulous, a shopper, said.
Investigators are not releasing any other information. They are trying to figure out the man’s identity and how long he’s been dead for.
