Fort Bend County names new Facilities Management and Planning Director

James D. Knight has been selected as Fort Bend County’s new Facilities Management and Planning Director, a position that has been filled for over nine years by Donald G. Brady who recently announced his retirement effective at the end of September.

Mr. Knight is a twenty-three year resident of Fort Bend County and brings to the job nearly twenty-five years of experience in facility programming, planning, design, and project management with a variety of facility types.

Mr. Knight is a licensed architect in the state of Texas and has served under Mr. Brady as the Facilities Management and Planning Department’s Program Manager since 2006. His extensive project experience includes governmental facilities, historic restoration, K-12 schools, libraries, parks, and church master planning and design.

Prior to his joining the County, Mr. Knight was an Associate Principal with Bailey Architects in Houston.  He is a graduate of Angleton High School and earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Texas Tech University in 1989.

Along with Fort Bend County’s other Executive Managers and Department Heads, Mr. Knight will report directly to Commissioner’s Court – the County Judge and the four County Commissioners.

County Judge Bob Hebert stated, “We are pleased that Jamie has accepted this new role that is so critical to the success of Fort Bend County and vital to our citizens.  With eight years of experience in the department, he is expected to provide an important continuity of leadership as we move forward with our various real estate and construction projects.  The fact that we have experienced professionals like Jamie in place to accept such leadership roles is particularly rewarding.”

The Fort Bend County Facilities Management and Planning Department oversees the County’s real estate function and manages the maintenance, operations, and housekeeping of the County’s 260+ structures and 2.5 Million square feet of space.  It has over 60 employees and a $10 Million operating budget.
