The Sugar Land Police Department expects milder temperatures in October to yield increased participation in an event that will replace National Night Out (NNO) this year. Like NNO – held in the blistering heat and humidity of August – Texans
Against Crime was formed by the East Texas Crime Prevention Association in 2007 to encourage residents to meet their neighbors and show support for fighting neighborhood crime on Oct. 14.
To prepare and promote the new event, SLPD will be hosting a creative art contest for high school and middle school students. Winning artwork will be used for promotional purposes, including t-shirts and posters.
While the name is changing, the event will seem very similar. Residents will be encouraged to register block parties through SLPD’s Crime Prevention Unit and request attendance from police officers, firefighters and other city leaders.
