Rosenberg’s Pitch, Hit & Run competition to be held at Sunset Park

Darren McCarthy, Parks and Recreation Director, has announced the Rosenberg Parks and Recreation Department and the Rosenberg National Little League will co-host a Pepsi Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, and Run Local Competition. The Competition is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, at 9:30 A.M. at Sunset Park, 2017 Mulcahy. An Information Line will provide information should the Competition be threatened by weather conditions. Up-to-date recorded information will be available by calling 832-595-3936 after 7:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 12.

“The Pitch, Hit and Run is the official skill competition of Major League Baseball and recognizes individual excellence in core baseball skills,” reported McCarthy. “The program encourages youth participation while emphasizing the fun element of the sport. There is no charge to complete so the program gives youth from ages 7 to 14 the opportunity to pick up a bat and ball and give a shot at our national past time. I am looking forward to a great response from the community; I guarantee everyone will have a good time!”

Registration begins at 9:00 A.M. the day of the competition. There are no provisions for pre-registration. All competitors in the Pitch, Hit and Run Competition are required to provide a copy of their birth certificate at registration. Parents or guardians of each competitor are required to complete a registration/wavier form prior to the competition.

Competitors will be divided into four age divisions: 7 and 8, 9 and 10, 11 and 12, 13 and 14. Age groups are determined by the participant’s age as of July 17, 2008. Boys and girls will compete together in each age group.

Winners of the Rosenberg individual pitching, hitting and running competitions along with the overall champion in each age group will advance to the Sectional Competition in May.

Members of the Rosenberg National Little League and players on the Lamar Consolidated High School varsity baseball team will assist Director McCarthy and City Staff during the event.

Contact the Rosenberg Parks and Recreation Department at 832-595-3960, 832-595-3939, or at www.ci.rosenberg.tx.us for more information on the Pitch, Hit and Run Competition and other athletic programming. To learn more about the national Pitch, Hit and Run program, go to www.lejsports.com.
